About Me

01 Vision

Fractured Pulpit is my name for what others call post-Christendom or the secular age. For me, it speaks to the idea that the "authority" of traditional Christian faith is, at best, being renegotiated. At worst, it simply doesn't work anymore, and no matter how hard we kick at its wheels, it's still not working. I'm not walking away from the pulpit, but I am thinking about it's repair. So, I'm in the former camp, renegotiating and not sure where or how everything comes out. And to borrow some language from self-help, that's not okay and that's okay.

02 Background

I'm a complicated person. A friend and colleague asked me to give a brief account of my identity, where I am, who I am — and I felt embarrassed. Why?  I'm Native proud, a direct descendant of the Lower Tanana branch of the Athabascan of Alaska, registered with the Eyak Nation. Today, I carry my great-great-grandfather's name. I also carry the name and appearance of White settlers, including "Whiskey Jack" my great grandfather and the first White man in my family tree. Some day, I'll tell a bit of his story here, but for now, it's good enough to know that he figures into my complicated sense of self.
